Step-by-step

How does it work?

Step 1

Fabric

YOUR FABRIC

Find a physical fabric that you want to digitise. Position the fabric on a flat surface at a suitable height for you to comfortably take photos of it.

Step 2

CAMERA

CAMERA & FLASH

Get your camera and flash ready. No expensive dedicated machinery or equipment needed. Use a camera you already have, buy one in an electronics store near you, borrow/rent from someone you know, or order one as part of the Bandicoot onboarding kit

Step 3

PRO CHART

SCAN FROM A5 - B0 SIZE

Position the PRO Chart over the fabric area that you want to digitise. Use an appropriately sized chart that fits your fabric/pattern repeat. Charts are available in sizes up to 1m.

Step 4

Capture

MOVE AROUND THE FABRIC

Scan your fabric by taking a series of flash photos of the fabric and chart from different angles. Bandicoot will automatically detect the precise angle of each photo when we process the scan.

Commonly asked

What camera do I need?

We generally recommend using a DSLR camera with no less than 24 megapixels, in order to achieve the base level of quality. A prime lens (50mm or 85mm) mounted to the camera and a hot-shoe flash (mounted on top of the camera) is also recommended.

It is possible to use a zoom-lens and built-in flash with most cameras, but it is not recommended.

Feel free to send us quick message to check if the equipment you have is suitable. We are also happy to recommend a complete camera kit, if you need to buy a new one. These normally start from US$ 1,500/kit in most countries.

How does the stitching process work?

Yes, it's easy to digitise your own fabrics by yourself with Bandicoot's solution. All you need is a Starter Package (above) and a DSLR camera + hot-shoe flash.

You can find more information about our self-service fabric digitisation solution here.

Are there any fixed monthly costs?

No, there are no fixed monthly costs.

You purchase credits (see below) that you use in the app.

What are Credits?

Credits are used to unlock your digital materials, after processing and review.

Ten Credits are used to unlock one material. Before unlocking, you will get a chance to review the final result in the app.

After unlocking a material, you will be able to download the texture maps. You can also share the material directly using a dedicated link, and you can embed a Shimmer View directly onto your website.

What is a PRO Frame?

The Bandicoot PRO Frame is positioned over the area of the fabric/material you would like to digitise, while capturing the required photos with your camera.

Here's an example image of how our A4-sized PRO Frame looks like.

The chart is used by our software to support the texture map generation process and to accurately calibrate colours. It's a critical part of the scanning process that allows us to generate accurate texture maps that are faithful to the physical fabric.
